ABOUT GRACIE KLUMPP:
I studied animation and illustration at Huntington University, and have been a freelance illustrator for three years. Before that, I taught art for kindergarten and 2nd grade, and developed my own art curriculum based on Core Knowledge. We'll be using some of this curriculum in Drawing Club. My husband, Mr. Klumpp, currently teaches third grade at Founders.
ABOUT THE CLUB:
This Drawing Club is for Founders Classical Academy students. It meets weekly, and is lead by Gracie Klumpp.
The main focus will be on drawing skills —first on basics of drawing and gaining confidence in drawing anything, and then to use those practical skills to express story and beauty through linework.
Some main topics will include use of basic drawing materials, drawing with shapes (an animation method I’ve found to be useful for drawing anything more confidently), basic composition, and visual storytelling.
CHANGES FROM FALL TERM: I'll be simplifying the topics covered in the fall term and taking more time with them. There will be a bit less of me teaching concepts in front of the class, and even more hands-on drawing time for the students, in which I'll be circling around, spending more one-on-one time with each student as much as possible.
WHEN DOES IT MEET AND FOR HOW LONG?
This term we'll have two sections: one that meets on Tuesdays and one that meets on Wednesdays. Both will meet in Mr. Klumpp's third grade classroom from 3:25-4:45pm.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Each session is $14 per student, plus a $40 supply fee for the term. This comes to $180 dollars for the entire 10 week term, which works out to $18.00 per session per student.
MORE ABOUT SUPPLIES:
There is a $40 supply fee for each term (unless you're a returning student who still has their supplies, and then it's only $20!). I'll bring supplies for each student at the first session. Some supplies will be kept in the classroom, and others (mainly a sketchbook and some graphite pencils) will be periodically sent home for homework. You'll get to keep the remaining supplies at the end of the term.
WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN MORE THAN ONE TERM?
No worries. I’m building the curriculum in such a way that students who participated in the club in one term can take it again the next and build on the skills they have already learned. I will be covering the same basic topics, but add extra challenging projects and techniques for experienced students. Returning students will also have a reduced supply fee if they hang on to certain materials (like drawing boards) from the previous term.
Though Drawing Club isn't strictly speaking school, I expect all students who sign up to behave themselves as they would in a regular class. We'll absolutely be there to have fun, but if your student is consistently disruptive, I reserve the right to remove them from the club for the remainder of the term without a refund.
