Pasta and Pyrex Doodlin'

As the next part of my MATS class, I'll be designing some bolt fabric. I've been wanting to try my hand at fabric for awhile now, and this mini assignment to get me ready for the big one was me really excited!

The prompt was to just draw lots and lots of pasta and Pyrex--with paint, pens, pencils, ink smudges, whatever. Just observe with reference images or the real thing and draw, draw, draw.

Honestly, it was really nice just to let go and play with these. It's been awhile since I've spent this much focused time just messing around with simple objects and approaching it in different ways, and it was really good for me. The subject material has a great vintage vibe and it was really easy to visualize how some of these sketches can eventually turn into a finished design in some great retro colors!

I plan on continuing more of the same over the next couple of days, but here's a start to my pasta and Pyrex explorations:

Want to see a bit of where I got my inspiration? I almost always make Pinterest Boards for every project. You can check out my reference and inspiration board for this project here.

Stay tuned to see the final fabric design(s)! I can't wait to share!
